Bodies. The Exhibition is one of the hottest exhibiton features around today. The exhibition displays real human bodies in order to demonstrate the engineering of the human body. BODIES…The Exhibition gives visitors the opportunity to see themselves in a fascinating way like never before and fully understand how and what our bodies do.

The exhibition contains more than a dozen full body specimens and 200 organs and partial body specimens – both healthy and diseased bodies can be viewed by vistiors. The exhibition also provides an educational experience that replace the use of traditional methods of text books, classroom lectures, photographs and simulated models.

According to their website “The study of human anatomy has always operated on a basic principle: to see is to know. This same principle led Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Islamic cultures to a progressively more scientific understanding of the human form. Public dissections during the Renaissance furthered this understanding, laying the foundation for our modern medical institutions and for this Exhibition.”

The Exhibition is organized by Atlanta-based Premier Exhibitions, Inc. Premier Exhibitions obtained the specimens in BODIES the Exhibition through Dalian Medical University in the People’s Republic of China. The specimens in BODIES The Exhibition are unclaimed and unidentified bodies. The exhibition has had mixed reviews due to the fact that they use real specimins although It is common practice throughout Asia and the United States for such bodies to be used by medical schools for educational purposes.

This description of the Bodies Exhibition automatically made me think. Science at school was very boring for me. I believe that perhaps if there was such an exhibition around before, I may have been able to ace my science GCSE! Instead I was stuck looking at a plastic skeleton and disecting a pigs heart. I personally believe it is an amazing and new way of learning that will definatley open the mind of everyone, especially children.

For more information on the exhibiton and where to buy tickets you can find out more in our April addition of European Vibe Magazine.

Leona - first UK female No 1 in US charts in 21 years

The X-Factor winner Leona Lewis has become the first British female solo artist to top the US charts in 21 years. Leona reached No. 1 in the Billboard Hot 100 with her catchy ballad ‘Bleeding Love’.

Prior to Leona’s success, Kim Wilde was the last British Female Solo artist to break into the US with her number one in 1987 with the cover of the Supremes song ‘You Keep Me Hanging On’.

It is also the first time in 27 years that a British Female artist has debuted at number 1 in the US. The last artist to have achieved this was Sheena Easton with Morning Train in 1981. The only other British artist to achieve such success in the Billboard Hot 100  prior to Leona was Petula Clark with ‘Downtown’ in 1965.

Leona’s song ‘Bleeding Love’ was No 1 in the US iTunes chart for the last two weeks. It went to No 1 before to Leona’s appearance on Oprah Winfrey show, where the host referred to Leona as a “star is born” when the singer sang live on the show.

Leona’s mentor, Simon Cowell, said: ”I am incredibly proud of Leona, what she has achieved in the past year is simply amazing. I am very very happy for her.” She was signed to SyCo Music, Cowell’s division of Sony BMG, after winning the UK talent show X Factor. She is signed jointly in the US to music legend Clive Davis’s label, J Records.

Bleeding Love has already topped charts in 10 countries around the world before gaining success in US charts and knocking Usher from the top spot. In the UK, it was the biggest-selling single of 2007, staying at Number One for seven weeks and selling more than one million copies.

The 22 year old star from Hackney, London, used to work as a receptionist before winning the X Factor. On her website she expressed how much being number one meant to her:  ”Well I really don’t know what to say, I’m so overwhelmed right now. I’m getting to share my music with people around the world and it’s beyond my wildest dreams. From the bottom of my heart thank you all so much, it’s because of you that I am able to do this.”

It’s nice to finally see an X Factor winner actually singing and producing amazing songs instead of disappearing from the scene months after winning the competition- So, well done Leona! Thumbs up from European Vibe.

Slash gives Amy some sound advice

Slash

by Maja Gojkovic

The legendary guitarist of Guns N’ Roses, Slash, has offered his advice to Amy Winehouse in an interview. The legend warned Amy not to destroy her career with drugs.

The former Guns N’ Roses guitarist, a reformed alcoholic and drug abuser himself, thinks that Amy would benefit by staying away from illegal substances if she wants to make the most of her incredible talent.

In the interview he said: “Amy’s cool, she’s carrying the torch for rock ‘n’ roll. I think she’s great, not so much because of her personal choices, but because she’s a fantastic singer with a unique sound and style.
“She’s on the verge of greatness, but it would be regrettable if her talent was overshadowed by her extra-curricular activities. She’s at a crossroads - I hope she makes the right decision”.

During the interview, Slash also expressed his opinions about the current music scene and although he is a huge fan of Amy, he didn’t seem to be too impressed about guitarists around today “It’s sad. There’s no identifiable guitar player in rock ‘n’ roll any more.

He said: “With the exception of Jack White - who is great - the new breed of bands aren’t bringing out decent guitarists. Rock ‘n’ roll is so diluted at the moment, you just don’t hear good solos.”

The 42-year-old Guns N’ Roses guitarist is one of the world’s all-time great guitarists along with Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen and Eric Clapton.

I wouldn’t have wasted my breath, personally, since she clearly doesn’t listen to anyone. But perhaps one day she will sit up and take some notice- sooner rather than later, for her sake.
