The Euro Triumphs
Tuesday, December 4th, 2007By Ellen Marks
As a college student, it’s rightfully assumed that I’m pretty poor. At home, I can usually get a part time job to help with cell phone bills, food purchases, and tiny shopping sprees when I have time. Even though the part time job pays me in the dollar and all of my purchases are in the dollar, I’m still living on a tight budget. I’m talking about the harsh little concept known as the exchange rate.
Of course, I saved up before I moved to Europe. I was still shocked at the $1.25 to every †1, but I look back at suck days and $1.25 seems appealing. On Thursday, the dollar hit a record low against the euro. For every †1 it is $1.403. The dollar also hit a 26 year record low against the pound. This means that every †20 pair of shoes is practically $30. All of my †4 drinks at the bar are basically $6. I am left in awe, and can only allow this little cartoon to express how I feel about the recent exchange rate.
